Today a judge extended the deadline for Georgia absentee ballots. U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross ruled that the ballots must be counted if they are postmarked November 3rd, and delivered up to three days afterward, in today’s Atlanta Journal Constitution.
In her 70-page order, Ross writes:
Extending the deadline would ensure that voters who receive their ballots shortly before Election Day are able to mail their ballots without fear that their vote will not count.
Of course, our loathsome Secretary of State plans to immediately appeal the ruling — but we’ll see how that goes. Ross bases much of her ruling on the presence of Covid-19 and that voters must be protected during the pandemic. Raffensperger certainly has his work cut out for him to argue against that simple logic.
In other news, a new PPP poll has Joe Biden neck and neck against the Presidential incumbent in Georgia. The poll was commissioned by Stacey Abrams. It also shows that Georgia’s Biden supporters plan to vote by mail in this election — as well as a majority of Democrats in the state who say they plan to vote early. These are positive developments.
Not a bad day for a deep red Southern state.
