In 2018 Brandy Chambers lost to Republican (boo!) Chen Button by a mere 1110 votes in Richardson, Texas State Legislative District TX HD-112. That’s 2%.
Local Independent blog ReformAustin highlights this race as one of the Top Ten Most Vulnerable Republican Districts in TX, noting:
“With over $500,000 in her campaign account, it will be difficult for challengers to outspend Chen Button in the next election. Like many of her Republican colleagues, Chen Button voted against Medicaid expansion, and said at a Texas Tribune panel that it was politically toxic to her and other Republicans, though surveys show that in Texas there is a bipartisan consensus in favor of the policy.”
That’s where the NDRC, DFA and President Barack Obama come in.
As dailykos mainstay poopdogcomedy noted here this month, Barack Obama has launched endorsements that reach deep into State Legislative races, including no fewer than 18 State Legislative candidates in TX.
It will take small donors like us visiting Brandy’s website and pitching in our small donations to help level the playing field.
If you can’t donate you can do the next best thing and follow Brandy on Twitter, where you can like and retweet her posts. That really helps raise her profile and can lead small donors and volunteers to her campaign. You won’t regret the follow. You can tell from the picture above that she’s got a sense of humor!
More than that, she’s good on issues we all care about...and did I mention, she’s DFA-endorsed?
And that brings me to a simple point.
Barack Obama endorsed these candidates for a reason. Every ounce of energy we drive to local, state legislative races has a disproportionate impact on the national playing field.
“Look” as our favored president himself might say, “Donald Trump wants you to fall for his distractions. Don’t take the bait. Supporting great local candidates like Brandy is how we hit the Donald where it hurts.”
If the news has got you down and distracted, then take a break, like me, by visiting the great campaigns of some of the amazing local candidates like Brandy whom I’ve featured in this series:
Mokah Jasmine Johnson (GA) | Akilah Bacy (TX)| Joanna Cattanach (TX)| Ricky Hurtado (NC)| Sara Rodriguez (WI) | Franccesca Cesti-Brown (FL)
