When I entered this race in May, it was because the First Coast community deserved better leadership.
Looking at my opponent’s record, it became clear that he’s actively working against public education, equality, gun safety laws, expanding healthcare access, workers’ rights, and our environment.
He’s been taking District 11 for granted thinking he only needs to represent part of the district instead of working for everyone.
That’s why I was proud to run. To take him on and beat him. But I was also proud to run to bring equality to the district. I’ve been endorsed by the Human Rights Campaign, the LGBTQ Victory Fund, Equality Florida Action PAC, Women’s March Jacksonville and Women’s March Florida, and many others.
I’m running to make healthcare more affordable, to invest in public education, to keep my community safe from gun violence, and to protect our coastal community from rising sea levels.
But I’m also running as a proud gay man, who believes that full equality under the law, for every person, no matter their sex, race or sexual orientation, is our only option. I’m running for full equality. And I’m proud of that.
Unfortunately, my opponent disagrees and promotes his bigoted policies left and right. And during the pandemic, record unemployment, and the nationwide conversation about ending systemic racism, my opponent has been silent and nowhere to be found.
But you can find him at political events like RNC receptions (not wearing a mask or social distancing) or flotillas for the President where confederate flags were flown. He even rode on a boat that was proudly flying the QAnon conspiracy flag. That’s not the representation we need.
Northeast Florida deserves a leader that is present and fighting for the people. And they deserve to make history by electing the first gay State Legislator from Northeast Florida. Someone who has a husband and is starting a family. Someone who represents the future of a united Florida; not the past four years of a divided America.
Together, we can do it. We can and will beat my opponent this November and make history. We need to resources to win but we have the strategy in place to get the job done. Join us. Help us.
