A Trump Re-Election means the end of Medicare and Social Security

This is a message that Democrats need to repeat all day, every day between now and election day. Scare the living bejeezus out of everyone over 50.

Trump has already ordered the federal government to stop collecting payroll taxes from federal employee’s paychecks. This is a temporary halt and those employees will be liable for those taxes in 2021 (after the election of course). Those taxes are what pay for Medicare and Social Security.

Trump has offered the same deal to private sector businesses. Government actuaries have calculated that if all businesses stop collecting FICA (payroll taxes) the Social Security disability fund will be bankrupt next year and Social Security by 2023.

Trump has promised to make these cuts permanent if he wins re-election with support of Congress.

Most people in this country have no retirement savings. Some have equity in their homes but that’s all. A few have some money in 401(k)s dependent on the health of the stock market but not enough to retire with a decent life absent Social Security. Only a lucky few have enough savings or pensions to see them through retirement, and even those could be wiped out with serious illness or a stock market crash.

Social Security is all that stands between the majority of elderly in this country and homelessness and abject poverty. Medicare is their only hope of health care in advanced age. 

Trump wants to take that away. Republicans want to take that away. If Trump wins another term, they’ll do it.

What other message to we need to push to the over 50 voter demographic? A vote for Trump is a vote for being poor, homeless, and without healthcare in retirement.
