Welp, back on Saturday our brillig talked about her week last week. Tonight, I’ll talk about mine. This past week has been hella tough on everyone. It ended for me in uncertainty, exhaustion, despair, but not without hope and positives on the horizon. So grab a beverage (the box o wine for me), and let’s get into our tale
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
So, the week started with an ultimatum from my landlord, as well as a couple of calls from collection law firms, which I’ve diaried here. So that little nugget only made the voices in my head louder. Then there was the weather. All week it was mid to high 90s, and it turns out that the HVAC unit covering my wing of the school is broken. This week it’s supposed to be cooler, but the room without air is stuffy and can be stifling. So I basically baked for a week. Then my next door neighbor’s house burnt down. I was one of the first who noticed the fire beginning, and I spend almost 5 minutes on the call answering questions—many about me, I don’t know why. By the time the FD arrived, it was too late to save the house. The frame and roof are still relatively intact, but the inside is gutted. My neighbor got out safely, but with only a t shirt, shorts, socks, and the FD saved his phone. Then there was the RNC, which I avoided like the plague. Oh we also had a hurricane too. My sister lives in Alexandria, LA, and as far as I know, is still without power. To top things off, I was pan roasting some pork steaks, and dummy that I am, I forgot to put a towel on the handle of the pan after it came out of the oven. The blisters on my fingertips are fine now, by the way. And, as a final FU, after I arranged a day off school for yesterday because I got called to jury duty for the first time in my life, I find out yesterday morning that I was not needed and my pool was dismissed.
But not all is dark. Thanks to many in the Kos community, I’m not drowning anymore, but I’m not out of the woods yet. My sister and my next door neighbor are both safe, despite their vicissitudes. It’s cooler this week, so the HVAC guy has more time before I go back to sweltering in a sauna. I’m getting the hang of teaching on line, and my kids are participating. And while I always have the weight of the voices and the despair, it’s a little lighter. Of course, I still have election anxiety, but I’m trying to compartmentalize that to prioritize my life first.
Moral: You can have the worst week ever, but there is always positive. It may be sometimes hard to find, but when you do, it makes live worth living.
And now, on to Tops!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
