O’Hai!
This diary is an update on my life, including my ongoing adventures in substitute teaching, earning my teaching credential, life with my critters, Covid-19 precautions AND a request for financial assistance.
If you do not like such diaries, please move along.
This month’s goal is to raise funds for my last Fall Semester Tuition payment plus my living expenses: $3000.00
You have come through for me every time I’ve needed help, and I hope you continue to do so. However, it will only take one time that I miss my goal and can’t make a rent payment or a tuition payment to cause everything to come to a crashing end. I anticipate needing to do these fundraisers each month until next October when I will be getting my first paycheck as a teacher.
If you are short of funds yourself, please do not put yourself at risk to help me. There are ways to help that do not cost money, i.e. REC, TIP, COMMENT, and SHARE this post.

UPDATES
Teaching Credential update:
I have been placed in a third-grade class in a school about a mile away from my house. I have been going to the school and classroom where I have been using Google Meet to be with my class. My co-teacher sits on the other side of the classroom so we are socially distant.
Several of the students have had me as a substitute teacher in the past in either Kindergarten, First, or Second grade(s). Thus I have a pre-existing relationship with many of them.
I have taught a couple of lessons, one on “what is a hero” and I am working on a lesson on using the “CUBES” technique of doing math.
I have been reading “The Wizard of Oz” to the kiddos a few pages at a time. The book is different than the movie in a lot of ways.
I have been giving the students writing assignments that I grade online. Topics have been about the various aspects of the Wizard of Oz, what is a hero, and imagine you are a squirrel and what will you do as a squirrel, and more.
I have made a few videos for my students and they seem to like my work. I will post some of those videos later.
I have been attending online classes from the University for the teaching credential and the homework is starting to get busy. The classes are three-hours long from 4-7 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
I will finish my final class in the program, if all goes well, next summer. Hopefully, I will be hired as a teacher for the following school year. I will also hopefully be working on a Master’s degree in Education next year as well.
I have done a few substitute teaching jobs when I can fit them in. I had a sixth grade class one day and a special-education Kindergarten class, both online. There have been very few substitute teacher jobs posted this fall, and even if there were more sub-jobs available, I can’t take many of them due to my commitments in my assigned credential class. The little I can earn as a sub will not come anywhere near what I need to pay my rent and tuition. They do provide a bit more experience in doing remote teaching in different schools, districts, and grade-levels.
Cardiac Update:
I have been continuing to recover from my cardiac adventure of a heart attack and stent insertion surgery a few months ago. For much of the past few months, I have been at home. The damage done to my heart has left me weak, but I am slowly getting stronger. In addition, the new drugs I’m taking make me very weak due to very low blood pressure and other side effects. I have a problem with my heart which will require surgery in two to five years or I will die. The aortic heart valve is “calcified” and is leaky and my cardiologist says there is nothing that can be done short of surgery to replace the valve to fix the problem. Hopefully, I will have a few years of working as an educator with a financial buffer built up before I must have the surgery.
Due to my pre-existing cardiac condition, combined with other factors, I face a grave risk should I get COVID.
Critters:
My critters, four dogs, and three cats continue to be doing well. They have gotten quite spoiled with me being home most of the time over the past few months. I often wake up in a huge cuddle puddle with all four puppies and two of the three cats on me.
The third cat, Anubis, has not come into the house in a long time because the puppies freak him out. I have been putting cat food out on the porch for him, with the side effect of feeding local ferals and wandering cats with homes who want an extra snack. I have put out a trail camera and I have gotten a few pictures of Anubis. He is now about 15 years old but he still looks good. Unfortunately, I may never again cuddle him again due to him being so scared of the dogs, although I see in some of the backyard photos that he is not freaked out by all three dogs. He seems to be most afraid of Zorrita. He interacts with the other two cats, Apophis and Na’at quite a lot.

I have a good start of $2075 raised for my September Tuition and Living expenses, but I still need $925 for my last Fall Semester Tuition payment due on September 30. The end of the month Tuition payment is coming due soon. 🙁 You have always come through in the past, but it only takes one time I don’t make my rent or tuition to cause my teaching credential adventure to come to a screeching halt. ✋🏼 The contributions are accumulating but could still fall short. This is a monthly source of intense anxiety for me. 😱 As the month is going on I am growing more anxious. I am hopeful that I won’t get to Sept 30 and I have to drop out because I do not have enough to pay my tuition. 🥵
Thank you,
