Pennsylvania’s State Legislative district HD-160 straddles critical Delaware and Chester Counties and is home to some really amazing Township names! (More on that later!)
On election night 2020, I can guarantee you’ll be seeing those counties flash across your TV screen.
But first, here’s the backstory.
In 2012, the Republican incumbent ran unopposed in this district. (You read that right.)
In 2014, the Republican incumbent defeated our candidate with 62% of the vote.
In 2018, Democrat Anton Andrew narrowly lost 51%-49%, and, subsequently, in 2020 the GOP incumbent has decided to retire leaving this seat open.
2020 is the year we come together and elect the first Democrat in 42 years in PA HD-160.
But we can only do it if we all come together around Anton Andrew.
::
Anton Andrew brings some powerful priorities to the table when he lays out his vision for the wonderful corner of PA that includes Bethel Township, Chadds Ford Township, Concord Township, Upper Chichester Township, Kennett Square, Kennett Township, Pennsbury Township, and Pocopson Township:
I STAND for clean air and water, preserving open space and fighting climate change.
I STAND for common-sense gun safety reforms, including a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
I STAND for a woman’s right to choose and for gender equality.
I STAND for full and fair funding of school districts that give every child the opportunity to realize their potential while reducing the property tax burden on our homeowners.
I STAND for keeping families together and I stand with Dreamers.
I STAND for a living wage and equal-pay-for-equal-work.
I STAND for the principle that ‘Love is Love.’
I STAND for fair legislative districts that end gerrymandering.
I STAND for ensuring that no elected official, including the President, is above the law.
He also brings the endorsement of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, EveryDistrict and, also...President Barack Obama.
But what’s more important Anton is bringing a focus on young people to the public face of his campaign and that means he’s keeping the focus on our future and a crucial voting bloc we need to turn out in the general:
There’s only 60 days to the general election, but that’s an eternity in political time.
I’d ask that you consider donating to Anton Andrew, following his campaign on Twitter, and, if you’re in PA or nearby, visit the TurnPABlue website, to identify campaigns you might be able to volunteer on.
And while you’re at it, please tell me about local races you’re excited about and check out the other great state legislative candidates I’ve featured in this series below:
