Hello Internet,
I am a simple fellow in his 25th year of teaching. I got lucky and secured an E-teaching job...huzzah, no scrapping for hard currency for me. I am sorry to say this is not about me, but you. I am truly sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Here in Florida schools are open (with choices for students, not Teachers) . I have friends who retired because they could, not because they wanted to. so here we go:
Do you remember the pic of the Georgia high school hallways? Well, that is every hallway in every school. Sure we have “sanitizing stations” with some ineffective wipes and a gallon of hand sanitizer, but we also have 20+ in a classroom. Anti maskers abound, and kids are taking off the masks just to agitate teachers. There are anti mask teachers who let everyone take off masks, and then kids just say “Mrs IMA Betterteacher lets us take masks off”. Covid is in the air. One teacher vanished on day 2, we find out she is being quarantined but no one else. Staff was not told. District has a plan to just remove infected people, everyone else stays. Ron Deathsantis has ordered the Health department to NOT release school data on Covid. Teachers at my school have wagers on who is gonna get it next. If September 1st was day zero, by September 30th the numbers will be very high, but we wont know due to hidden data. Its only when people start getting hospitalized will we know. The community spread will be astronomical ( and this is a holiday weekend, so kids who went to school in person can give it to the family) . This is going to get really, really bad, and it seems America is unconcerned. I cry for my country, for we are lost. May The FSM reach out and touch us with his noodly appendage, for that is all that will save us. You have been warned of whats coming.
