Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share a virtual kitchen table with other readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by to talk about music, your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper…. Newcomers may notice that many who post in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table and hope to make some new friends as well.
I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that the tension in this country is ratcheting up every single day. Everyday is a challenge to take care of oneself and those close to us.
While we keep focused on getting Biden and Harris into the White House, we need to keep our balance and stay as healthy as we can.
For myself, I am finding I want some gentility in my books, my tv, my music. Because everyday the news brings some new horror or outrage. Or lies (no, Portland is not on fire!). I want cozy mysteries, funny fantasy, nothing too taxing. I want a hero who will make things right.
So I have returned to Miss Marple, Agatha Christie’s elderly spinster detective, one of the finest fictional criminologists ever. Miss Marple, kind of like Jane Austin, learned all the iniquities of the human spirit from studying the people in her small English village. And the very best Miss Marple ever ( there have been several!) was as portrayed by the late Joan Hickson. The 1980s BBC productions of the Miss Marple stories with Joan Hickson have been remastered and are available on BritBox. Make a cup of tea, put your feet up, and enjoy a vintage mystery. That’s my tip for this Friday evening!
The weekend begins now. Come in, be comfortable, and share your day, your weekend plans, your menus!
