This is just a small section of the state around Monterey bay and inland. Notice in particular that there is virtually no heat relief even along the coast.
The green radar blobs that suggest rain are instead pyro-cumulous from the ongoing major wild fires which are now mostly contained.
The lowest temperature on this map is in Carmel at the south end of Monterey Bay, directly on the Pacific, at 71°F, though the shoreline temperatures in Santa Cruz at the north end of the Bay are at and near 100°F. The highest temperature on this map is in the boulder creek/scotts valley area at 119°F, which seems unlikely as it is the only sensor reading that high. However there are 112°F readings in Gilroy AND Hollister, and since that’s more than one sensor in a similar region it suggests those are probably real readings. If you go to the wunderground.com site and dive in for a closer look there are additional sensors confirming those numbers.
I think we are setting records today.
Cooling centers are open, but….covid….
