I nearly walked over this beautiful fungus during my daily stroll. I love blue in nature and the different shade always catch my eye. With that bias stated, this is the most striking mushroom I have ever seen. My discovery got better with a bit more research. Let me tell you more about it.

Just looking at the leaf litter, the top of the mushroom has a pale, powdery hue. When scratching the leaves off, I found a deeper blue emerged along my finger nail path, (as seen in the title photo). There were several growing together so I choose one to examine. The following photos show the results.
Blue gills and greenish blue area where the stem meets the head.
The gills turn blue upon touch (bruising) by oozing a thick sap.
When I got home, I found the following video on the internet. There is a lot more information on this beauty than I expected. Now I have a favorite, (sorry Chanterelle).
Our good friend Marsanges has been sharing moths with us from his home in Germany. I haven’t had time to spend with him about this common interest. But, I think of him every time I see a new flying insect. Here are some moths that I spotted this week. I hope you all like them as well.

Finally, I saw this caterpillar. I had an idea which moth it matures to but haven’t been able to photograph one. So I uploaded the moth photo to show the flier.

My bug of the day has been shown by others. It does not kill cows, but it’s bite will make you believe it can. They are fast and live everywhere here in Mississippi. Pretty scarlet color with a nasty bite.
