We’re ba-a-ack! Welcome back to the odd and whimsical poetery of the Peeps related to holidaze! Let’s investigate what today is, because we need all the holidaze we can celebrate, right?
Lately, every day seems to be many holidays! Which is good, because we all have our favorites. So I will pick out one or two, and you can click the link above if you’re curious about the rest. This is an Open Thread, so please feel free to add your favorite pomes and photoes and holidaze for today in the Comments!
Today is Information Overload Awareness Day
Since I have been quite overloaded lately, I chose this one to share!
Some ways the day can be observed include:
- Work to cut your email output by ten or twenty percent. Avoid "reply to all," forwards, and any emails that aren't necessary. Unsubscribe to email lists. Don't send a text or call someone to ask them if they received your email right after you email them.
- Move to a place free of distractions to do your work.
- Cut out multitasking, and focus on one thing at a time.
- If possible, completely disconnect for the day.
- Learn more about the Information Overload Research Group.
- Read Jonathan Spira's book, Overload!: How Too Much Information Is Hazardous To Your Organization.
[Much more information, if not TMI, at the link! And note that I believe in multitasking. I think trying to cut that back is a guy thing!]
by Lawrence S. Pertillar
Many suffer from,
Information overload.
And nothing can be done,
By information overload.
Too many getting numb,
With information overload.
And not overcoming,
That information overload...
Can be,
Impossible to see achieved.
-snip-
With many running away...
From wanting purpose.
And many running away...
From honesty!
And many running away...
From keeping focus.
And many,
Are running away...
From peace believed.
To wish it could be possible.
Eye contact is...
Impossible to have it achieved.
An understanding is...
Impossible to have it achieved.
People sincere is...
Impossible to have it achieved!
Because we're overloaded,
With too much information.
[Lawrence S. Pertillar is a poet, actor, playwright, and performance artist. He was named “One of America’s Most Distinguished Poets” by The International Society of Poets; and cited by the U. S. Senate for “poetic accomplishments and writing achievements”. See more bio at the link!]
Today Is Office Chocolate Day
I work at home, so there is usually significant chocolate in my office!
In the long history of the workplace, there was only one thing that ever really made the afternoons go faster and the day seems a little easier, and that’s chocolate. A shame that the Europeans had to wait until late into the 17th Century to discover it, they suffered all that time without chocolate to ease the day. Thankfully that’s no longer a concern. Office Chocolate Day is your opportunity to grab a bar of chocolate, or an entire tray, and enjoy it while you’re at the office!
[Again, much more info at the link! And a decadent photo at this link!]
Chocolate
by Gerald E. Greene
She asked me to write an ekphrastic poem,
from a picture of chocolate treats,
within a wreath of strawberries,
hovering over a chocolate sea.
How does one describe a love affair
with one so sweet,
one who is molded into seductive forms
and combined with friends of texture and taste?
-snip-
A height of emotion was quickly reached,
exceeding all previous feeling,
as primitive impulses surfaced
to consummate the new relationship—
One that would survive darkness
and competition from unexpected directions.
And so, I look at the picture and remember,
remember that moment long ago, when we first met.
[I learned a new word — ekphrastic. Full pome at the link! Gerald E. Greene is retired from business management, now writes fulltime. Published book of poetery, “Kaleidoscope,” in 2017, available for purchase at the Kaleidoscope link.]
I thought I might find some aminals who can enjoy chocolate besides hoomins, but nope:
Although many people are aware that dogs can't eat chocolate, it is actually a very common intolerance for most mammals. From ferrets to pigs, cats to poultry, accidental ingestion of large amounts of the cocoa-based product could result in chocolate toxicity, which can be fatal.
-snip-
Rats and mice, however, can metabolise theobromine about as efficiently as humans, but due to their small size, what seems like a little piece of chocolate is a large amount for them, so it's safer to keep chocolate away from their little hands!

PWBPeeps is a group that posts a daily diary and nightly open thread for animal lovers. We share photos, seek & give advice about pet health and behavior issues, support each other in times of sadness and stress, celebrate together when times are good, and on most days have an inordinate amount of fun.
You are welcome to join us!
Here are a few not-too-onerous PWB rulez
Violate ‘em and we’ll say that you’re crulez
- Do not “Troll” the Pootie Peeps Diaries. If you don’t like animal diaries, there’s no need to tell us about it. Just go find some other diary more to your liking.
- Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. As in, no pie fights. This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly.
- If you would like a pic from the comment threads, please ask the poster. He/she may have a copyright to those pics. Many thanks!
- There are some pics we never post: Snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated.
- If you’re not sure about an issue...please ask. Someone is always glad to help.

This is an open thread! Please chat away in the Comments. Enjoy!
PLEASE NOTE: Your humble diarist is NR, so consider yourselves +1 as long as you behave! ;-)
ADDITIONAL NOTE: Please help out the little feathered folks by putting out extra birdseed and/or fresh water for them, wherever in the US you live. Megafires have them stressed. I have been feeding and watering daily. The skwirrels take advantage, but I am seeing birdeez come to the feeders and water bowls too.
And finally, Ginger update: She is doing better! The vet today said she is in excellent shape compared with last week, that I have intuitively been doing all the right things, that he did not expect her to look this good this soon! Apparently I am the sick-cat whisperer. And all of you who made comments in her diary to help me clarify what I needed to do are my whisperer associates! The vet did decrease the medications that might be making her so sleepy. Thank you all!
