Biden will go into the presidency with more experience in governing than any other president in our history. He was a Senator for 37 years and the Vice President for 8.
No previous president even comes close.
In normal times, this would be a bonus but not a deal breaker. After all, it would always be nice to have a president who already knows how the oval office works *and* who is an expert at getting bills through congress.
But in this case, it is essential. Transition of power from one White House to the next typically involves the transfer of enormous amounts of information and lots of time of training and teaching. Staff train staff. Binders of information are turned over. Do you really think that the Trump administration will leave so much as a post-it note for whomever comes in next? Would we want them to?
Biden is going to inherit the biggest mess any president has ever walked into. He will be given no transition plan. He will have no useful detailed notes on the state of the world from the last four years.
Biden’s experience will be essential for this moment in history. He will walk in already knowing how the White House works and knowing how congress works. He already has relationships and knowledge from all over the world from his many years as chair of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He has connections and relationships with all the people who ran the Obama White House.
No person knows more than Biden about how to be ready to lead on Day 1 and no person would be better at it.
Joe Biden will be a great president.
