Welp, it begins. Joe Biden has signaled loud and clear that he intends to let Trump walk, as holding him accountable for his crimes would be too “divisive:” www.nbcnews.com/...
Biden hopes to avoid divisive Trump investigations, preferring unity
They said he has specifically told advisers that he is wary of federal tax investigations of Trump or of challenging any orders Trump may issue granting immunity to members of his staff before he leaves office. One adviser said Biden has made it clear that he "just wants to move on."
Another Biden adviser said, "He's going to be more oriented toward fixing the problems and moving forward than prosecuting them."
Good lord. That’s the exact same reasoning Obama used for not prosecuting the Bush crimes, and what happened? Bush completely rehabilitated his image, and Republicans took note of what they could get away with. Now with Trump putting kids in cages, looting the Treasury blind, using the Justice Department as his personal law firm, selling out our national security—and we’re going to let him get away with all of it?
If Biden lets Trump walk, he will be the last Democratic president for a very, very long time—maybe ever. If Trump had won, we’d have fallen over the edge into full-blown fascism. If Trump walks, Republicans will take note that endemic corruption and fascist coups are a-ok, and act accordingly. Lord, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a conservative Republican, has shown more moral courage and integrity in standing up to fascists than any Democratic leader has.
I don’t have a lot more to add, but I would add that I see a connection between Democrats allowing Republican crooks to walk, and Republicans feeling free to be crooks. Check this out:
He does this because he knows he can get away with it. We let them walk, we get this. Being nice just encourages them to break more laws. It’s truly incredible to me how Democrats think that making an issue of Republican corruption and lawlessness would be politically beneficial for Republicans. I mean, they just spent two years sweeping Trump’s corruption under the rug, avoiding confrontation with him at every opportunity, while doing little except saying “preexisting conditions” every other sentence—and we almost lost the House, and Trump came within 45,000 votes in Wisconsin, Arizona, and Georgia from being reelected. Now, their solution is to double down on their failed strategy of appeasement, letting fascist crooks consolidate their gains. It’s almost as if Democrats genuinely do not want power. I could just scream.
