No more excusing ‘cause it ain’t in my town’
I love my country and this ain’t goin’ down
No more feeling helpless watching people die
shot and choked and smothered for no reason why
so what can I do? I’m a mama too.
I watched George die. I heard his cry.
If I don’t ACT I’m complicit too!
Joe Biden said so -- How about you?
George gave them a fake twenty (so they said)
now let’s turn that on its head
and give lots of dollars -- not fakes
we are mamas and we’ll do what it takes
They think money is king
well that’s not our thing
but fight fire with fire and speak their talk
multiply our dollars for Reclaim the Block
A mama’s a mama - skin color don’t count
It’s the heart of a mama that makes us shout
for justice and peace and freedom to breathe
and multiply our dollars for Black Visions Collective
So if you want to give to “two black-led Minnesota based groups organizing for racial justice”, there is the link, same link as posted here by Rashida Tlaib. Thanks to her and to Reps. Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for sponsoring the fundraiser on ActBlue’s secure platform.
I’m no poet as you can see if you read the above. This just came out of the shock and misery I’ve felt all week. Because I’m a mama too. How can any mama, no matter where she lives or what color her skin, turn away from the last words of George Floyd… “please… I can’t breathe…. mama...”
