Does anyone else find the endless “surveys” that are just leadins to fundraising emails irritating—perhaps a little insulting to the intellect of those targeted? Let me be clear—I’ll vote for Joe Biden in November even is his running make is my friend Sarah’s goldendoodle. So asking me if I’ll vote for Joe Biden and _____ is pointless. Better questions would include: will you support Joe +1 with donations? Telephone calls? GOTV letters and cards (yes, I know those are “just” urging people to vote and I’m guessing they aren’t going to died in the wool 45 supporters)? Will you watch webinars to learn better ways to talk to voters on the fence about Joe +1? Then whoever is running these emails might get some meaningful information out of the process. Had the collectors of information in 2016 done this, it might have alerted them to the overwhelming lack of enthusiasm many of us felt the DNC nominee Hillary Clinton.
And while I’m venting a tad, could we lose the exclamation points on all sorts of “emergency” stuff that can be prevented only by my donations? Last time I took civics, decades ago but I’m pretty sure it is still the case, I learned that many of the “emergency” actions will take preparation and passage of bills by both houses of Congress and then a signature by the President. Ask me to write or call my senators about nominations by 45 of unqualified people to vital posts and I can do that. But major changes to Social Security and Medicare do require legislative action—although opposing 45’s nominees to administer these programs is good.
That’s it. These fundraising emails are impossible to reply to directly (except by giving money). I sometimes feel that feedback is not welcome or it wouldn’t be so hard to find a way to give it-DNC? DLC? DCCC? Ok. I’m done. I’ll go play with the puppy now.
