I’ve read a lot of articles about the Capitol insurrection, but none mention that during his Save America speech Trump apparently begged for armed reinforcements to assist his supporters:
I’d love to have, if those tens of thousands of people would be allowed, the military, the secret service, and we want to thank you, and the police law enforcement. Great. You’re doing a great job, but I’d love it if they could be allowed to come up here with us. Is that possible? Can you just let them come up, please?
Note the phrase “here with us.” It does seem Trump wants the military, Secret Service, and police to join his mob, to be one with the mob. He never says that there is any threat to his mob. For example, he doesn’t mention any counter-protesters who might commit violence against his supporters.
Considering that the mob does not seem to be in any way threatened, why would they need security to protect them from harm since there is no potential harm? If they don’t need protection, then the only logical reason why Trump wants the military, Secret Service, and police to join them is because he wants those armed men and women to assist his supporters when the march to the Capitol to stop Biden from being certified as the new president. I can’t emphasize enough that the military, Secret Service, and police officers are armed and trained to use a gun. He didn’t ask for the Department of Agriculture, Fed, or Post Office workers to assist his mob.
He specifically asked for armed assistance. That to me is evidence that Trump wanted his mob to use violent force to achieve their goal of stopping Biden from being president. Many government people predicted that Trump would use violence to retain the presidency. For example, last year “more than 100 former national security officials, politicos, and other experts war-gamed election and transition scenarios, almost every one ended with street violence and a political crisis that pushed America’s democracy to the brink.
Their prediction was correct. After listening to Trump’s speech his supporters immediately terrorized the U.S. Capitol causing death, personal injury, and property damage. Trump himself made no bones about using force to take over America. A senior administration official told Axios that Trump is "retweeting threats of putting politicians in jail, and spends his time talking to conspiracy nuts who openly say declaring martial law is no big deal.”
