A collection of tweets against which the current crises should be seen, including a recognition of international women’s day.
The greatest information problem is the disinformation contradictions of the real increases in gas prices as a function not of banning Russian oil imports but how capital is accumulated. There is a real effect on supply chains among other elements in the economy but remember that the gasoline itself has not changed. This resembles boycotting “russian” vodka even if only 5% of all such alcohol comes from there.
Because driving in a circle wasting fuel to protest bans on mask-wearing that no longer exist is smart, even in Cancun.
Adding some other women whose work I’ve been grateful to read from Ukraine. This is @olgatokariuk, a Ukrainian independent journalist & disinfo researcher based in Ukraine (Kyiv I think)
This is @ngumenyuk A Ukrainian journalist who’s on the ground there & has an international security background.
This is @AndreaChalupa an American-Ukrainian who’s been warning us about all this for years. She also made the great @MrJones_Film about a Welsh reporter no less who tried to warn the world of what Stalin was doing to Ukraine. It’s on Netflix I think & a great watch for right now
This is @juliaioffe a Russian-born US-based journalist & editor who’s an indispensable voice right now.
You’ll know the legendary @lindseyhilsum from C4News but her tweets of what’s happening on the ground will help you feel closer to the country
I’ve been grateful for @anneapplebaum’s work on authoritarianism for years but her expertise on Poland especially important right now
This is @KSergatskova editor-in-chief of a tiny indie media outlet @zaborona_media in Kyiv who’s been transformed into a war reporter overnight
I’m not sure where I know @PaulaChertok from but she’s an expert in propaganda & is on my list of essential voices from Ukraine.
I’ve read @JaneLytv’s excellent reporting on disinformation for @BuzzFeed for years. She’s now at Harvard & is across all things online & Ukraine
This is @maria_avdv a disinfo & security specialist who, terrifyingly, is on the ground in devastated Kharkiv
This is @KatyaMalofeyeva another journalist who’s extremely close to the ground in Ukraine & has been covering the Donbass for years & is also in Kharkiv right now I think
Taking a break here for a mo but please add other names to the list. War is so flipping male! And it’s why we need to highlight & amplify the voices of women journalists & experts in in the field now more than ever
