Seriously, stamps have gotten expensive!
I wrote four hundred GOTV letters for the Wisconsin Supreme Court race. I felt bad about the low number because I wrote around two thousand for the 2020 race and about the same number for 2022. Then I bought stamps.
Oh my God. Well, that blew my monthly budget. Nearly 250 dollars! I guess I’m an idiot because I forgot that the price had gone up and the sticker shock really rocked me.
Well, it sucks, doesn’t it? Writing letters to voters is a good way to make as much as a 4% difference in turn out and it allows me, from my position on an island in Puget Sound, to participate in races nationwide. And I like doing it! What to do?
I have a plan. From now on whenever I buy groceries, I am also going to buy a roll of stamps. I shop weekly, so that’s four rolls a month. Thirty-six rolls in a year. That’s three thousand six hundred letters! If I can’t write that many letters, I can give stamps to other people who need them for lettering writing campaigns.
What do you all think? 2024 is going to be another make or break election in our battle against fascism, so I am getting started early.
