Erika Yalowitz is running as the progressive alternative in the very diverse 37th State Senate District in Virginia. With new boundaries after restricting, the incumbent has only represented 44% of the area. Erika ran a prior campaign for Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 2019, when she vigorously raised equity and environmental issues. At the time, she challenged the most conservative Democrat on that governing body and was the only person in a 5-candidate primary to win four precincts, which are included in the new district.
Erika has a proven track record of getting things done, from successfully advocating to save green space, to bringing electric vehicle infrastructure to the district. She understands the urgency of funding public schools, fighting to protect the rights of women, our LGBTQ+, and disability communities. Erika will work to help Virginia families afford electric vehicles and renewable power options that protect our environment, promote a culture of gun safety, and protect our children from fentanyl and opioids, which is personal to her, having worked as a juvenile Court Officer for a decade.
This is a critical election for Virginia, as the incumbent is one of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate, often aligning with Republican positions. The voting history indicates that this election is won in the primary and there is the opportunity to get leadership that represents the needs of the district. Erika has extensive community engagement on issues of direct social impact. This is the type of representation we need in the state legislature. Let’s work together to get her elected!
