A lot is going on right now. In the world and in my life. I’ve had to lay low for awhile. Just stopped in to look around, and boom... another diary about how Daily Kos is failing us in another different way.
Jeez. I’m just so disappointed. This time it’s because it/they/we haven’t done enough to address climate change.
I hope it’s not inappropriate to share my response to one of my heroes, Meteor Blades, who took a gentle hit in the piece. MB is one of many incredible people here at Daily Kos who has changed lives, so many lives, in so many ways, over his lifetime, often particularly in the area of climate change. One of many writers here who has educated, encouraged and empowered ordinary, passive citizens to get involved and continue to pass on the knowledge and urgency of so many social, ecological, and political issues.
To Meteor Blades:
You're not doing it wrong, my friend. You’re doing it well. Incredibly well. And so is Pakalolo. And so is Daily Kos. You have helped to make an eco-warrior of me, in my daily, personal life.
Each of us only have so many "spoons” to use each day. Each of us has to figure out how we will use them. If we are poor, sick, old, or endangered, just surviving may take all of our spoons. If we are only some of those things, but have a demanding job, we may have few to spare for our causes. We have to choose wisely.
What we need is for every person in this world to use one spoon every day to address the climate catastrophe. No one person can change this, but each of us can do out part, especially if “our part” is easily understood, and possible to do without too much pain. Some of us can use many spoons and make real differences, and help others to see the need and crisis. As you do. Your work is huge, Sir Blades. As is Pakalolo's. I often lie in bed and think of ways to share the insights I have gained from you, without scaring the hope out of my children and grandchildren. I do believe in hope and positivity, and I believe that Daily Kos is a champion in this fight, as it is in many others.
I want to change so many things about this world, about my country. But recently, I have seen the diminishment of my spoon collection, as I am aging and, well. You know. So I am choosing my spoons more carefully. But climate change is a spoon I will carry for the rest of my life, and I will use it every single day. This is in no small part thanks to you, Pakalolo, and Daily Kos.
We do all need to do something.
Us.
Each of us. In our own sphere of influence.
My children, my grandchildren, my students, they are carrying my spoons now. So many more spoons!. They use media and some do things I never thought of! I’m learning from them now.
I’ve been thinking for months of writing a diary on how we could start some movement that would involve simple ways to help. The diaries listing the ways have already been written, several times over.
Anyone willing to say what they will do? Every day?
