According to most editorial cartoonists, President Joe Biden took the GOP to the cleaners, but Speaker Kevin McCarthy survived as Speaker of the US House of Representatives. At least for now. I suppose one could call it a victory of sorts for him. The biggest loser in this debt deal was the so-called “Freedom Caucus.”
Ron DeSantis continues to struggle after his disastrous presidential launch on Twitter last week. He is trying various themes to dislodge Donald Trump as the Republican most likely to get the 2024 nomination. It looks like he is going nowhere, barring something catastrophic happening to Trump in the next several months. It might well occur in the form of legal indictments that would seriously damage Trump.
Believe it or not, Donald Trump compared himself as big an attraction as Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous painting, “Mona Lisa.” Is he being delusional?
I’ll post more editorial cartoons either in the comments or as updates to the diary. Thanks for your support.

New York Times: “The president’s approach to the negotiations — and especially their aftermath — reflects a half-century of bargaining in Washington. When someone has been around the track as long as Mr. Biden has, resisting the temptation to spike the ball and claim victory can be critical to actually securing the victory in the first place.”
“From the start of the clash with Mr. McCarthy’s Republicans, Mr. Biden has followed the instincts he has developed through long, hard and sometimes painful experience.”

“It has become a bit. In these early days of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ bid for president, Casey DeSantis joins her husband onstage, and the stories start to roll,” NBC News reports.
“The couple fires off all the indicators of wholesome family values to a conservative evangelical-heavy GOP audience. And even without mentioning Donald Trump’s name, they set up an inescapable antithesis to the former president, who faces charges related to a porn star payoff and was found liable for sexual abuse and who, when he landed in Iowa on Thursday, wasn’t accompanied by his wife.”
Insider: Casey DeSantis’ mission on the 2024 campaign trail is to bring suburban women back to the GOP after Trump lost them.

Donald Trump compared himself to the Mona Lisa in a bizarre interview with a Welsh-language TV channel, the Mirror reports.
Said Trump: “You have people that go to the Mona Lisa — they love the Mona Lisa and they’ll see it hundreds and hundreds of times and it gets better every time. You have people that follow the rock bands and they listen to the same songs over and over and over.”
He then compared fans returning to his rallies like theater-goers going to “a Broadway play where they will see it 20 times.”
