I didn't know I could hate Putin and Russia and Russians more that I did until last night I heard a brief mention of the zoo wiped out by the destruction of the dam.
It was just one sentence in a brief interview.
I went to bed and could think of nothing else — I woke a couple of times and my mind immediately went to this horror.
Today I woke with a beyond heavy heart and knew that more details would be available.
They sure were — and my tears flowed and continue to flow.
It is a horrific story. These poor people had fought so hard to save their animals and keep them safe through this vile war started by the war mongers in Russia and carried out by the filth known as the Russian Army:
“The Fairytale Forest zoo has been under occupation since the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. The occupiers shelled the park, set up a checkpoint, and interrogated the zoo staff.”
“Every day, two workers of Dibrova went to the zoo under shelling, risking their lives, to feed and care for the animals.”
“At 6 am, when Forest workers arrived, everything was flooded with water. We tried to save the animals for a whole year. The animals were blocked in the park. The park was mined, all the roads were blocked, and it was impossible to evacuate the animals.”
And then this, a heartbreaking quote of total defeat: “This is a terrible grief, a terrible pain. I am grateful to everyone who responded to our pleas. But we no longer need help. May Fairytale Forest remain in our memory as a fairy-tale corner of our hometown.”

Just imagine the scene at the zoo — animals trapped in cages, water flooding in, rising, nowhere to go, no safety to be had — terror and panic and death all around — no one to save them.
I can only hope it was a quick death.
Imagine the feelings of those who loved these precious animals and had fought so hard to keep them alive through the war.
Imagine how they felt knowing what was happening and being unable to do a single damned thing to save them.
That’s a horror just there in itself.
Then there are the many, many scenes on social media of desperate animals being rescued in the region — so many will die or will have already died.
So many scenes of people trying to save their animals as the water rises.
Russia is a nation of barbarians and savages and filth.
If I write what I want to happen to them someone will no doubt report me.
So I will keep that to myself — I have no intention of giving anyone that satisfaction.
But for the many on here who support Ukraine, let us hope that this wonderful nation and its brave and long suffering people throw these barbarians back across the border into the moral wasteland that is the criminal state of Russia.
Glory to Ukraine.
