A play in one act.
Coach: Okay, gang. That was a good first half. We did a lot of things well, but we can still do better. I really like your hustle and attitude out there today. If we continue with our game plan, we are in great shape. Now let’s go out and put those guys away!
Henderson: Uh, coach?
Coach: Yes, what is it, Henderson?
Henderson: Don’t you remember that they beat us eight years ago?
Coach: Sure I do, but we’ve got a younger, stronger team this year. And they have lost a lot of steps in that time. Besides, we beat them four years ago, remember that?
Williams: Barely.
Coach: I don’t think it was that close, honestly, but at least we didn’t trash the arena when we lost. I don’t think that went over too well with the fans.
Williams: I bet most fans thought it was cool.
Coach: Look, we’re getting sidetracked here. The point is that if we play our game as we have been, we will come out on top.
Ashford: Sounds like you think we already won. I guess we should just go home now then?
Coach: but I didn’t say …
Williams: I’ve always heard it said that we should always play like we’re 10 points behind.
Coach: You mean all panicked and desperate?
Williams: yeah.
Coach: You all are acting like we can’t win. I’m gonna remind you again that we’re ahead.
Team, in unison: DON’T JINX US!!
Coach: well, you guys go out and do your best then, while I sit here and look up open coaching positions in Canada.
