Since Republicans passed state laws that could send physicians to jail if they don’t wait to save a pregnant woman’s life until she’s about to die, despite a federal law mandating emergency medical care, they could also pass a law that lifeguards would go to jail if they save the life of a drowning woman before she's about to drown. How does a lifeguard know when a woman is about to drown since her swimming ability and health issues are unknown to him or her? Would the lifeguard consult with another lifeguard first to decide when to try to save her since the law is vague regarding the requirement to wait until she’s about to drown? What medical conditions of women will be designated next to be ignored until near death?
Most lifeguards, just as most police officers and firemen, would still risk their lives without hesitation to save someone’s life, taking the chance no jury would send them to jail for saving a life. They would follow their training and continue to live by the Golden Rule to “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” which the Republican legislators who voted for anti-abortion laws clearly don’t live by. Should those legislators be charged with premeditated murder for plotting laws they know will result in the deaths of pregnant women and that already have?
"In July, a New Philadelphia police officer and firefighter/paramedic were honored by Mayor Joel Day for their lifesaving efforts in two separate incidents. The mayor praised them for their professionalism and compassion.” Compassion is the missing ingredient in the Republican Party and their anti-abortion laws. They have no empathy for pregnant women and girls or their families who will mourn their deaths and suffer from their loss. Those legislators don’t care as long as they can get re-elected and retain power.
"A major provision of the 14th Amendment was to grant citizenship to 'All persons born or naturalized in the United States,' thereby granting citizenship to formerly enslaved people.” Another important provision was the statement “nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
Since women have now illegally been deprived of “equal protection of the laws,” health decision laws regarding breast or uterine cancer, appendicitis, COVID, etc. could also require physicians to wait until women are near death before trying to save them. Countless more lives of American women will be lost because of the misogynistic Republican Party that has put power and wealth above established federal law, the U.S. Constitution and the Golden Rule.
Since men won’t be targeted next for delayed health care, who will be? During World War II, 1939-1945, the Nazis targeted other groups for persecution and death beside Jews. "They claimed that Roma, people with disabilities, some Slavic peoples (especially Poles and Russians) and Black people were biologically inferior, also. Other groups persecuted were Communists, Socialists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, gay men, and people the Nazis called ‘asocials' and 'professional criminals.’" No one is safe from the orders of a dictator. In 2024 America, not only women but Hispanics, Haitians, childless cat ladies, etc., could also be targeted to have life-saving medical care withheld from them until near death.
