Trump is howling, claiming federal hurricane relief is being directed to non-Trump areas. Of course, he is lying. He always is lying. But he is right to be very concerned.
His beef is not with Joe Biden, but with God. In hitting western North Carolina hard, Hurricane Helene is likely to impact the election.
Rural voters in western North Carolina, many likely Trump supporters, have been devastated by the storm. No one knows how many died. There is much work to be done just to find the bodies.
People who have lost their homes will be trying to get to some place warm and dry where there is something to eat and a place to sleep. For many, that will be a location far from home.
When they had moments to save the lives of their family and their own, a voter registration card would not be top of mind.
As they go through the process of getting shelter and putting their lives back together, support for the Orange Idol will not be their first concern. Some will manage to vote, but some will not.
In the population centers in eastern North Carolina, voting will be less affected.
They used to say Nebraska elections were determined by the weather. If it rained, farmers would not be able to get into their fields and would go into town to vote. A hurricane is a lot more than that.
As reported in the New Republic:
Trump suggested in a Truth Social post earlier Monday that he’d received “reports” from North Carolina claiming that the Biden administration and Democratic Governor Roy Cooper were “going out of their way to not help people in Republican areas” in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The western region of North Carolina is currently experiencing severe flooding.
In the big book of Trump lies, this one is interesting.
He often lies because he happens to be awake. He never has an interest in telling the truth.
But this lie is essential to Trump. With God, or if you prefer the hurricane, taking away his votes in North Carolina, he is really and totally screwed. He can’t win without North Carolina and even he knows it.
