Anyone remember how, on Election Day last week, Nancy Pelosi said Democrats would win the House?
Doesn’t seem like she called it correctly at this point. NBC is reporting that Republicans currently hold the lead in enough uncalled House races to retain the majority. According to them, 213 races have been called for Republicans, while 205 have been called for Democrats, with 17 uncalled (favoring Republicans by 5-6 seats).
Per The Hill, Republicans currently have 216 seats to Democrats having 209, with 8 of the remaining 10 uncalled races favoring Republicans.
In short, we are very likely to lose at least one seat in the House from where we currently stand, never mind regaining the majority.
So, given that, why are we giving her opinions on the reason for this election loss any credence? It seems to me that her recent effort to throw Biden under the bus is more about distracting attention from her bad call than anything else.
And to be perfectly honest? It pisses me off to see her doing this given she was one of the principal figures behind the pressure campaign to get Biden to withdraw his candidacy. A pressure campaign which succeeded, let me remind you all. And yet despite that, it is somehow Biden’s fault for not capitulating quickly enough?
As far as I am concerned, this demonstrates that Pelosi should probably gracefully withdraw from politics. While I still respect her decision to stand down as the Democratic leader in the House, her recent decisions are in the process of eroding that respect. So I really do not appreciate her attempting to point fingers to blame someone else rather than simply admitting she made a mistake.
