con·cen·tra·tion camp
/ˌkänsənˈtrāSH(ə)n ˌkamp/
noun
a place where large numbers of people, especially political prisoners or members of persecuted minorities, are deliberately imprisoned in a relatively small area with inadequate facilities, sometimes to provide forced labor or to await mass execution. The term is most strongly associated with the several hundred camps established by the Nazis in Germany and occupied Europe in 1933–45, among the most infamous being Dachau, Belsen, and Auschwitz.
That is Google’s definition. For ICE detention facilities, reports show 60% are non-criminal and 95% are people of color after years of Trump calling immigrants “vermin” and “poisoning the blood of our country”, racist appellations echoing Hitler’s rhetoric in Mein Kampf.
Imagine if the U.S. elected a Mexican president who called White immigrants “vermin” and created 95% White camps forcing prison labor. Imagine the outrage!
To corroborate calling Trump’s detention facilities concentration camps, let us verify the applicability of each aspect of Google’s definition:
Persecuted minorities? ✅
"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists." — Donald J. Trump (a racist)
(What the lying President, found liable in a court of law for sex abuse, won’t tell you, is that only 11.8% of sex abuse cases are from Hispanics, who constitute 19.1% of the U.S. population. Foreigners are less likely to commit sexual abuse than both the native-born population and non-Hispanic White individuals in this post-fact era and disinformation age.)
Deliberately imprisoned in a relatively small area with inadequate facilities? ✅
Thousands of immigrants have been placed in solitary confinement (23 hours confinement in a tiny room), most often as a result of mental health conditions or sexual orientation under Trump, against the immigrants’ will, solely because they are LGBTQ+, rather than for disciplinary reasons. The UN deems solitary confinement, which the Trump administration expanded the usage of in detention facilities, as “torture” under the Mandela Rule for prisoner treatment. Putin’s Russia loves to use solitary confinement — human rights be damned.
“LGBT detainees were also routinely put in isolation solely because of their sexual orientation.”
"The detainee never received even the most basic care for his wound."
They pepper spray Hispanics, drag them around the floor, and give info only in English. It’s racist paradise.
A cursory Google search will reveal that ICE agents have engaged in extrajudicial killings (with no accountability — and now they are immune in a 6-3 conservative Supreme Court ruling Egbert v. Boule, which Trump has also pledged for the police — and there are mass allegations of sexual abuse, rape, and mocking of immigrants, who have to wear orange jumpsuits in ICE detention.
Under conservative Supreme Court rulings Garland v. Gonzalez (6-3) and Johnson v. Arteaga-Martinez, both in 2022, the Supreme Court now prevents lower courts from freeing those in detention and they have the permission to hold illegals without rights indefinitely, even if their stay has exceeded 6 months (which is super common).
Kamala Harris is proven right, once again, comparing racist and cruel ICE agents to the KKK.
Sometimes to provide forced labor? ✅
Under the Supreme Court’s 6-3 conservative ruling and another one, immigrants can be detained indefinitely — folks don’t even know when they will be released. Rendered rights less, force-feeding has been caught on camera, as well as ICE agents shooting Mexicans without any accountability, with impunity. In the Supreme Court’s recent 6-3 ruling MICHAEL JOHNSON v. SUSAN PRENTICE, ET AL., frat bro rapist Kavanaugh and his friends affirmed solitary confinement twenty four hours a day (which ICE systemically placed LGBTQ+ individuals inside for their ostensible safety under Donald Trump against their will) is not ”cruel and inhumane punishment”, despite being deemed torture by United Nations.
They’re dehumanizing Hispanic folks (90% of those detained in ICE). They’re taking Mexicans into orange jumpsuits (that Trump and the Republicans belong inside) en masse and forcing them to work (slavery, anyone?) Those who refuse to work are thrown into solitary confinement. Guards are sexually abusing women, making humiliating remarks and laughing at migrants who tried to commit suicide — laughing sadistically at their pain. It is all documented. Call it a gulag, call it a concentration camp, I don’t care. Clock is ticking for the racist Grand Ol’ Party.
The time is nearly up for the human rights abusing racist GOP fascist thugs. ⌛ The fascist thug era in America has a short window of power because they all face accountability for their dehumanizing actions.
Hopefully, severe punishment and accountability will occur for their attempts to deny Americans rights, deny undocumented immigrants equal protection under the law guaranteed by the Constitution TO ALL people NOT JUST citizens (in Abraham Lincoln’s 14th amendment), and attempt to strip Americans of their birth-right citizenship due to their race. Crimes against humanity must be repaid in kind.
This isn’t your grandmother’s GOP. It’s worse. Did Bush, McCain, or Mitt Romney endorse Donald J. Trump for President? None of them did. All have criticized him severely. McCain tanked his efforts to deprive millions of Americans of protections for pre-existing conditions by one vote.
"CNN has reported that McCain chose Barack Obama and George W. Bush – the two men who kept him from the White House – to eulogize him and didn’t want the President to attend his funeral.”
Rather than making racist remarks against Mexicans and calling for their mass detention and deportation, John McCain backed comprehensive immigration reform. What he said about Donald J. Trump was: “Because what he did was he fired up the crazies.”
Geo Group founder George Zoley, whose company is the country's largest private prison, psych ward, and immigrant detention facility operator, told investors last week that Trump's deportation plans represent a "potential sea change" for the industry. Mass human rights abuses have been reported at their facilities, and Biden previously pledged to close contracts with private detention facilities. Trump’s first admin also reversed Obama’s criminal justice reform efforts to phase out private prisons. “Private prison operators GeoGroup and CoreCivic stocks have soared more than 70% apiece since Election Day.” That’s billions and billions of dollars. Profiting off misery. 💰💰 Trump has pledged mass deportation and to bring back mental institutions, both measures which old-time conservatives like Reagan opposed on the basis of human rights — Ronald Reagan lauded the contributions of undocumented immigrants, granted millions amnesty, explicitly announced his support of amnesty, and closed rights-suppressing mental institutions. I am not at all a conservative, but Donald J. Trump is a more fascist breed of conservativism, and I think it is essential to recognize its unique thuggishness and existential threat to our democracy and its institutions and most of all equality under the law.
