As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Greetings friends, and welcome to another Saturday. Congratulations! We have made it through another week, and here we are, together again.
Anyone who has known me for, more than ten minutes knows that Star Trek is one of my favorite things, and has been for most of my life. But as we grow, we often discover that even the best things, even the things we love the most, have problems, and the same goes for Star Trek.
One of the most problematic things about Star Trek, is the ways in which it deals with people who have disabilities. From constantly treating disabled characters as if their only goal should be to be “cured”, to playing to some of the most out of date and shameful tropes concerning disabled characters, to the fact that most of these characters are played by able bodied actors, Trek’s history with the disabled is absolutely shameful.
The Disability Action Research Kollective is a group of disabled writers, writing ‘zines on topics that interest and effect those of us with disabilities, and I was shown the first volume of their Star Trek magazine not long ago. While I do not agree with -all- of their points, I will admit they have some compelling arguments, and I decided I should share the DARK, and their Zine with all of you. As always, Link below.
