With both Republicans & Democrats getting fewer votes than 4-years before, on November 5th, 2024 Republican Donald Trump actually won the popular vote as President of the United States. He kept calling the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris stupid. Though Trump threatened to sue the University of Pennsylvania if they revealed his GPA.
The tariffs which Trump wants to impose on Chinese imports will cost the average American household $4,000 annually. Trump and his Vice President running mate, JD Vance, want to eliminate the Affordable Healthcare Act. So, folk currently on that plan will see their healthcare costs go up when that plan is taken away. Those who voted for Trump clearly don’t care if women don’t have autonomy over their own anatomy. Those who voted for Trump don’t care if women bleed to death when they can’t get the medical procedures that they need.
The Scandinavian countries have very small populations, but they have very dynamic economies because they have free higher education. Trump and his buddy Elon Musk want to get rid of the Department of Education.
Trump kept ranting about taking revenge on his critics. My first wife & I lived in Latin America for two years. I met many folk who had friends and family members, taken away in the middle of the night, never be seen again under the former dictatorships of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Guatemala. Under Donald Trump, I’m afraid we might see that same satanic behavior here in America.
Most countries around the world have a government system known as the Parliamentary System, also called Proportional Representation. Unfortunately, in America we have a dysfunctional two-party system. And a corrupt Electoral College system on top of that. Instead of being entrenched in a clear set of values, the two major political parties jockey for the middle-of-the-road to recruit voters. That was the fatal flaw of Kamala Harris’ strategy. While Trump was digging down with his base of under-educated fanatics, Harris was trying to appeal to informed right-wingers which didn’t even exist.
The hysterics who voted for Trump want and need a buffer from the dark side of capitalism. Other than healthcare, Harris failed to mention those other solutions. Trump pinned the sociopathic elements of capitalism onto the Democratic Party and his un-analytical followers fell for his narrative. There are wholesome safe ways to minimize the negative impact of capitalism such as: affordable housing trusts, cooperative-owned businesses (where each employee is also a co-owner of the business), free or very affordable higher education, free or very affordable daycare, free or very affordable healthcare, and removing the contribution cap taxed to the Social Security System.
