At first I was going to allow this to simply be an open thread but, on second thought, I do have a couple of things to say.
First: I still have not watched YouTube postings of any cable news programming since the afternoon of November 6.
I figure I have enough books in my house and on my e-reader to last an entire presidential term.
I’ve also found a few good, interesting, and, most importantly, distracting podcasts to listen to. In fact, I will report on my favorite of those podcasts next week and I am insanely jealous of the creators of said podcast because it’s something that I should have thought of.
Second: I’m about tired of people tut-tutting about the X to Bluesky switch.
I consider the time that I spend on social media to be my leisure time. Yes, I discuss a lot of politics but I also like to post about a wide range of stuff and I like to learn new things.
I rarely learn about a story that I post about in the Abbreviated Pundit Roundup or the Overnight News Digest from X or Bluesky; most of the time, I am going through the news sites themselves and picking a story that interests me or something that seems suitable for collecting and posting in the APR or the OND.
I am not about to have anyone nag me about how I spend my leisure time. After all, it’s mine.
Nor do I need to be more aware of what some in the world really think of a religiously agnostic Black gay man.
I know. Known it for decades. I’m not very interested in what the rest of the world thinks about my identities anymore (and that may be a function of growing older).
And I’m not interested in the algorithms that attempt to direct more of that type of hate my way.
Not that I don’t have to encounter some of that on Bluesky but...well, the college football haters on Bluesky can go to hell, as far as I’m concerned...but I am willing to deal with that.
My leisure time is valuable. And I am not giving it up for anyone of anything.
