This is part of a disturbing trend in the news media. First, The Los Angeles Times did not endorse Kamala Harris for President over the objections of the editorial board, as did the Washinton Post.
Now the Times is hiring Scott Jennings, a conservative commentator on CNN. His counterpoint on CNN has consisted of whitewashing Trump's insanity.
Jennings is going to be joining the editorial board at the Times. The owner of the paper, Dr. Soon-Shiong, said the move was to provide "balance" on the board. What he means is that he has caught a lot of flak from the far right and Trump supporters so he is changing the board to knucle under to pressure.
Jennings, of course, is calling the move "groundbreaking." I call it capitulation.
On news panels, it's good to have opposite views presented. But just because he's a conservative commentator does not give him a right to lie, as he and so many others do.
It's bad enough with conservative interests buying up local newspapers to control the narrative. When the major newspapers that have credibility decide it's safer to renounce their values for a buck and safety from attack, they've lost their reason to exist.
