They didn't vote.
Trump’s vote total for 2024 (so far) is 73 Million, while he received 74 Million back in 2020. Harris’ total for this year is 69 Million which is far below Biden’s 2020 total of 81 Million. His voters did this year pretty much what they did in 2020 — our people didn’t show up.
What this seems to tell us is that It wasn’t that they didn’t hear us point out that Trump is a nightmare, they just became burned out from all the incessant complaining, threw up their hands and sat on the sidelines. They didn’t openly embrace Fascism, they simply didn’t take that theoretical warning as seriously as the reality of Food Prices and interest rates.
But we can’t afford for them to stay there.
Here Chris Hayes lays out how the electioni actually went — and it seems that most of the country didn’t give in to Trump’s Xenophobia and fascism. We didn’t show up.
The problem that Harris faced was Incumbancy. That’s been the global trend. Because of Covid, the Recession and the rise of global inflation — incumbents were tossed out on thier ear. There was no defeating this tide. It was simply too strong.
As I’ve detailed previously at length the irony though is that Inflation now is at 2.1%, Immigration is down 77%, Unemployment is at a 50-year low, Energy Production is at an All-Time World-wide high. Crime is at a 40-year low, our Economy is currently the Best in the World with high GDP and Stock Market and record Deficit Reduction. Trump will walk into office and immediately claim “Mission Accomplished” — because it already has been.
Biden and Harris should have been rewarded for this, instead they were punished.
That sucks.
But we need to get over it.
Trump will not be able to cut prices, he doensn’t have the tools or the understanding. The only way to do what he ran to do — “cut grocery prices” — since he won’t address corporate price gouging by his fairway friends, would be for us to enter a recession which would mean deflation. If that happens it won’t be good for the GOP. Now that they’ve caught the car — they own the car.
Good luck with that, pal.
It’s time to get off the bench. We need to Trump-proof the nation as much as possible and that begins in the Senate. While we still have the majority over the next few months we need to confirm and seat as many judges as possible, and fill as many slots as we can.
When the GOP takes over the Senate, we need to counter the primary thrust of Project 2025 to place people in the government who aren't loyal to the Constitution, but instead are loyal to Trump personally. We can challenge each and every confirmation to ensure that they will honor their oath to protect the Constitution and if their prior statements show that isn’t the case, blast them with it then FILIBUSTER to keep them out of the government.
We have to block Trump’s tax cut bills, and we have to block his effort to fund his Mass Deportation plot, and block his plans to gut Medicare and Social Security. Even with a minority in the Senate — we can do that. We have to STOP HIM whenever and whereever we can. We have to minimize the damage he’s going to cause.
There isn’t much we can do about his tariffs (which will jack up prices), or how he handles Gaza and Ukraine. He’s going to fuck up a lot of shit.
We have to look forward, to the point after his tariff’s screw up this great economy, to after his incompetence and mendacity screw up food and safety inspections, to after he makes the DOJ his puppet and after he deports and detains enough people to cause a recession, after he tries to set the Military on Liz Cheney and peaceful protestors, and his tax cuts — if he can pass them — again, explode the deficit.
We have to block him where we can, but where we can’t we need to be ready to say loudly…
TOLD YOU SO!
Then we run like hell to take the House and Senate in 2026 and we run Gavin Newsom in 2028.
This could all turn out our way in the end, we just have to keep going and keep fighting.
We are the Resistance.
