Let’s start with the obvious: If the choice is Joe Biden or Donald Trump, President Biden gets my vote in 2024, 2028, 2032 and as long as it takes to rid this world of the MAGA mindset.
That said…
My parents and grandparents are deceased. I’ve witnessed the aging process. The sudden, then rapid, deterioration of memory, clarity and motor skills. Family members have gotten to the point where they can no longer be trusted with a check book or to sit behind the wheel of the car. You become fearful that they might fall for the latest telephone or internet scam. You are thankful that they’ve stepped back from making major decisions on their own.
Last month, I tuned into the debate about ten minutes in. I was hoping to see State of the Union Joe. He was nowhere to be found. I have no idea where the President is on the road to aging, but he’s further along than he was just four months ago. My life experience leads me to believe he will be even further down that path four months hence (let alone four years).
And that scares me. Not because I have any concern about a Biden presidency (I trust his people and administration). I’m scared because many people I know don’t have that same conviction.
The Democratic Party is fortunate to have many inspired leaders. The good people of America want to reject Trumpism – but many are hesitant to vote Joe. We need to coalesce around a new candidate.
I understand that the risk of this switch is great.
Not too long ago in America’s past, candidates didn’t even enter the race until a few months before the election. We’ve seen elections in other countries work out for the greater good with just weeks to campaign. The heart of America is good.
The fact that President Biden claims he did not go back and watch the debate was unsettling. Watch any sport, and you’ll see players running to the sidelines after a swing-and-miss to review the footage.
Eight years ago, Donald Trump said to America, “I alone can fix it.” I certainly hope the President does not feel the same way.
This one diary will not change what transpires next. It likely won’t change any minds here at dKos. I have gotten this off my chest and can now move on. Today I joined a Democrat Club in my community and will do what I can to defeat Donald Trump. Thanks for listening. Let’s go.
