As we all know, Kamala Harris is biracial and has been proudly biracial ever since she was a girl hanging out with her Black friends painting henna on their hands. Harris has never been confused about the wonderful joyful person that she is.
“I grew up with a strong Indian culture, and I was raised in a Black community. All my friends were Black and we got together and cooked Indian food and painted henna on our hands, and I never felt uncomfortable with my cultural background.”
Furthermore, she has spoken out proudly about her biracial identity at every stage of her education and her career. See the fact check linked above for the many many examples that show this to be irrefutable. There is zero inconsistency in her record on this at any point in her life story.
On the other hand, we have the Republican ticket. There’s Donald Trump, a guy who has never had an authentic identity, unless it’s as a racist, misogynist, cheating, swindling crook. At every point in his career his identity has been 100% transactional. If he wanted something from a Democrat, he donated to a Democrat.
Trump registered as a Republican in Manhattan in 1987; since that time, he has changed his party affiliation five times. In 1999, he changed his party affiliation to the Independence Party of New York. In August 2001, Trump changed his party affiliation to Democratic. In September 2009, he changed his party affiliation back to the Republican Party. In December 2011, Trump changed to "no party affiliation" (independent). In April 2012, he again returned to the Republican Party.[4]
In a 2004 interview, Trump told CNN's Wolf Blitzer: "In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat", explaining: "It just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans.
Now, ancestry isn’t the same thing as Black cultural identity. However, it is useful to point out that when it comes to Trump’s heritage, he even played up his Swedish ancestry and hid his German ancestry so that it wouldn’t alienate all of the Jewish businessmen he had to do business with in New York.
There’s the Trump who promised to pass an infrastructure bill and help American manufacturing and then there’s the Trump who’s only two actual accomplishments were passing tax cuts for the rich and killing Roe v Wade.
And don’t even get me started on Trump’s pretend “Christianity.” The guy would burst into flames if he even tried to enter a church. He has zero record on that front.
There is simply nobody in American politics who has ever been less authentic than Donald Trump. There’s very few people in American business or American history who are less authentic than Donald Trump.
But JD Vance is apparently trying to give him a run for his money.
Vance’s life story is pure fiction. Even his portrayal of Appalachians is a con.
Vance did not grow up in Appalachia, but in suburban Ohio, in a house in a neighborhood considered "middle class" at the time he was growing up. He took golf lessons and also went to Yale for law school.
There’s the fake hillbilly Vance and there’s the Yale tech bro Vance with his Silicon Valley sugar-daddies. There isn’t much on planet earth that’s more inconsistent and oxymoronical (ie fake) than a silicon valley tech bro pretending to be a hillbilly.
There’s the JD Hamel who cries while drinking diet soda and watching Zach Braff in Garden State. And then there’s the now rightwing politician co-splaying as a bearded macho man worried about America’s masculinity deficiency. There’s the JD Vance who says he hates cops. And then there’s the fake MAGA Vance. Oh wait, maybe that’s totally consistent actually.
The GOP ticket is just two frauds trying to pass as people they aren’t. They’re con-men and sadly for America, their MAGA base is a bunch of very easy marks. I would argue however that even they deserve something better.
Fortunately, Americans have that option in a wonderful and refreshingly authentic Vice President and Presidential candidate named Kamala Harris.
