The other day I stopped in at Petco and got an engraved tag for the Duke. It has his name DUKE, and two cell phone numbers. It was a matter of taking the collar off and swapping the tag out of the bell. But it was the worry that would be a bridge too far.
He has taken to enjoying the sleeping in the house at night, and we are working on the 4am call to go out. I am working making it 5 am. Good time. that means he comes in say Mairow, quietly sometimes, climbs on the bed, gives a kitty nuzzle kiss on the cheeks, followed by a shove with his head. The other day he added immediately pushing head under my hand to make it pet him. He know that when I reach up and pet him after the kitty kisses, I am awake and will let him out.
He has kept up the vigil to root out unauthorized kitties and let dogs know their place, on the ground far away. Otherwise its sleeping off the night on the patio or bed. It’s been 110F to 120F several times now, so it’s put him off his feed, which of course sets me to rubbing myself bald trying to figure out what he will eat.
He is playing the little snot where he get bored quickly but I am not sure what foods he is really interested in. Oh worra worra worra….. :)
But the reason that the collar and tag are so important, is the neighbors know he is pet not feral, like little Zena, we all knew where she belonged, though Xena wasn’t crazy about the dog. Long Story, but putting a collar on duke was not easy and he didn’t wear them long. The first time I put one on, it was in under 5 mintues and left on the bed in front of me. The second time it made a whole minute and 30 seconds but I didn’t find it till much later in the day. Little blue Dude was the same way, no collars brah.
Then when he allowed me to put on the collar and he kept it on, that was good, and from there it was getting the tag on the collar. So ya, he is ‘legal’ and the folks know he has a Furever home, so I have just a little less worry someone will think him a stray. I also got me a Sherpa backpack carrier so when I take him to the vet, I can carry him in the back pack on my shoulder and it allows him a good sitting spot with a huge ol window to look out.
In other news,
Big Baby went back to mom Friday. The Card, the medalion with his footprint, the engraved plague, it was touching. Mini Mol is adjusting pretty OK and Mom learned that after all these years, cats were smart, loving and caring. She kept them out of the house for 16 years, and she said that had she known, she would have let them in a long time ago. So another person learns the secret of the Rainbow Bridge.
It is in the heart.
