On August 28, 2014, Pres. Obama held a live press conference about the situation regarding ISIS in Syria in which he discussed the prospect of escalating the U.S. military response.
But that was NOT what the media decided was the biggest issue. It was the fact that our nation’s first Black President wore a tan suit.
And the headlines had a field day with his sartorial selection:
Personally, I thought he looked quite debonair — like someone who could have easily come straight from a GQ magazine shoot.
And it’s been the consensus that VP Kamala Harris gave a playful nod to Obama’s “scandal” when she wore her own Chloé tan suit at the DNC.
Either way, it underlines the concern of how the media can steer a conversation into the trivial.
So, we’re going to need our “Eye on the Prize!”. We’ve got work to do!
