As I express in the title, I think the Republican Party has a big problem: they have become functionally indistinguishable from the American Nazi Party, and Nazism is not all that popular. I think plenty of people here know and understand this, but let me be clear just in case: I’m not exaggerating one bit when I compare them with literal Nazis. I 100% mean it.
Republican darling Tucker Carlson interviewed a few days ago a holocaust revisionist by the name of Darryl Cooper, then promoted said interview by describing Darryl as "the best and most honest popular historian in the United States". “Popular historian” doesn’t mean anything, because you can call any rando talking about History without any sort of History degree (like our guy here) that, so why is this one so great? Because he is a unashamed Nazi apologist. Literally, that’s the answer.
If you ask me that incident alone speaks volumes, but things like saying that Churchill was worse than Hitler don’t quite reach the “Jews are subhuman vermin” peak. See, the problem is that GOP Nazis can’t be any more overt than that. Not only is dehumanizing Jews not as popular nowadays as it was in 1930s Germany, but they also desperately need AIPAC and Miriam Adelson’s money. And Nazis can’t repress their hate for long, so they need a new target, and they need it now. Enter the Ohio Haitian immigrants.
Haitians are the perfect target for them: not only are they mostly Black and poor (ewww!), but they also descend from slaves who emancipated themselves in an insurrection. They committed the greatest sin of all: forcefully rejecting the white man’s guidance. Of course their descendants were destined to be disgusting animals who murder pets left and right, it’s only natural.
Again: Nazism is not all that popular. Most people haven’t fallen that deep into the rabbit hole. Most people know that Haitians are, you know, human beings, like you and me. So, when Donald Trump repeats the anti-Haitian libel in front of the entire nation it sounds as ****ing ridiculous as it really is. And not even the ever-prevalent misogynoir can change the fact that at the end of the day most people want a sane president.
The very same radicalism that makes them so dangerous is going to kill their chances at legitimally winning the presidential election, and I think that’s some beautiful irony there.
