Welcome to Street Prophets Sunday Coffee Hour. This is an open thread so grab something to drink and let us know what is new with you. I thought that today I would take you through the process I use in creating my paintings.
I am an expressionist painter which basically means that what I draw or paint comes from my imagination and not from still life.
My preferred medium is acrylics. I think their colors seem to "pop" more. I also like the ease of blending colors. The clean-up is also a plus. Simple soap and water is all it takes.
Something you will see a lot of in my art is water. I love the ocean. I have a sound machine that help me sleep and it is on ocean waves.
Here are some of my paintings and what was going through my mind as I created them.
Here I combined four of my favorite elements ocean, sky, clouds and the moon. The ocean is calm which allows for the reflection of the moon. The full moon is positioned in front of the clouds. I did the clouds in blended sunset colors with a bit of the stary sky peeking through. I used a great deal of blending of colors for this picture in both the ocean and the sky.
I lived in New Mexico as a child and was fascinated by the desert. I wanted the colors to be subdued. The sun is coming up after a stormy night. I was looking for a contrast between sky and earth. I did a great deal of blending of colors in this picture.
In this picture I was going for a contrast between earth and sky. The green rolling hills are framed by the remains of the sunrise clouds. Again I was going for blending of the colors.
This is a deeply personal picture. I did it after my brother's death. Reid loved the color pink. The dark clouds represent the eight hours that I held his hand as he lay dieing. The candle breaks through the darkness into the light. It represents that he is no longer in pain. It was an emotional release for me to paint this.
Yes I know lavender doesn't grow in fields however I used poetic license to show it this way. I like the feeling of peace in this picture.
This is simply one of my favorite pictures. It has it all for me the ocean waves and the setting sun.
I discovered astronomy when I was eight years old. It is still my passion today. I am fascinated by the life cycles of the stars.
Another of my pictures featuring the ocean.
This picture is a little different style for me. It is more nature based then imaginative. I love roses.
So here are some of my paintings. As always I attribute my being an artist today to my second grade teacher Mrs. Bluestein. She wrote on my report card, "take a look at her art."
