The weird relationship of Republicans with dogs and cats is waiting to be properly ridiculed

A type of pet not yet maligned by Republicans

It seems to me that there is a very funny campaign ad that could potentially and profitably ridicule not just TFG but MAGA in general. This thing with pets is getting seriously weird and it needs to be somehow taken advantage of by someone more clever at this than I am. I note that most humans mentioned in this diary do not deserve full name recognition.

What is it with MAGA and pets? The question was asked by Amanda Marcotte in a recent article in Salon.

We have (so far):

The TFG meltdown during the debate falsely disparaging immigrants in Ohio

A mysterious young and increasingly close female companion of TFG who probably played a role in planting the seeds of the dog and cat eating rant

A current director of TFG’s transition team who actually DID eat a dog and seems to have a thing about dead bears and whales

A Republican governor who shot a dog (and a goat who displeased her for good measure)

A preoccupation of TFG’s running mate with cats and their women owners who do not comply with his vision of what women should be doing

An attempt to claim that Tim Walz’s dog is fake

A leader of Project 2025 and the Heritage Foundation disparaging dog parks

And last but not least, a former president who is the only occupant of that office since Polk who did NOT have a pet.

I am hoping that someone in the Harris campaign can conjure up something along these lines that is laced with the appropriate level of humor and disdain while touching on multiple, much more important issues that the above episodes were tangential to.
