The GOP has told us for a long time that if only everyone had a gun, we’d all be a lot more safe. They told us that everyone needs to exercise their 2nd amendment rights if they feel democracy has failed them. Well, that’s exactly what the alleged gunman at Mar a Lago believed too:
he told me every adult civilian in the world should be picking up weapons to fight
Our modern hellscape is what it looks like when the GOP gets its way.
The GOP got its tax cuts for the rich and they exploded our deficit causing record inflation.
The GOP killed Roe v Wade and now pregnant women and girls are dying for lack of basic health care.
The GOP made it nearly impossible to keep guns out of the hands of deranged lunatics and we have school shootings every month and mass killings and assassination attempts just as often if not more so.
The repeated assassination attempts in particular are what it looks like when the GOP gets exactly what it told us they wanted. They deluded themselves into thinking that Democrats would be the targets, but as it turns out, gun violence is predictably much worse in red areas on the whole. It’s just a numbers game. More guns per capita x more extremism = more death. These are also the areas where desperation is most intense, where parents give their kids the most dangerous weapons, where these weapons are hoarded, and where Trump’s MAGA’s in Congress have driven the desperate to believe they need to take matters into their own hands.
Conservatives wanted a country where everyone could have a gun and use it to get what they want. Well, sadly they got it. And now they’ll never be safe from the lunatics they themselves created and then armed.
For myself, I simply assume this is why the word Karma was invented. Unfortunately, some of us in the blue states will inevitably get caught in their crossfire. And so, we will continue to fight to do the job that armed MAGA men keep telling us they’ve got covered, but clearly clearly do not. America will never be safe if we leave it to MAGA men to arm themselves and play dress up warrior. America will only ever be reasonably safe when these men are disarmed for good.
In the meantime, high profile conservatives like Trump deservedly won’t be getting much sleep.
UPDATE: I mean let’s not forget, the GOP’s spirit animal, Marjorie Taylor Greene famously said that if she had been in charge of the Jan. 6th insurrection, they would “have won” because everyone would have been armed to the teeth. The modern GOP dreams of a country where if they don’t get what they want, they simply take it by force at the point of a gun. They kill who they need to, they rob who they need to, they kidnap who they need to. This is how they’ve educated their voters to see their “civic duty.” This is the country they worked decades to build and now that they’ve got it, they want to blame everyone but themselves.
