After the latest school shooting yesterday in Georgia yesterday, have you considered that it may be the easy availability of firearms across our country, and the belief that “good guys” with guns, are necessary to control the “bad guys” with guns, that are the underlying causes of the epidemic of mass shootings across America.
The NRA said “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” I say “People With Guns Kill People.”
It’s YOU, the “law abiding” gun owner who insists that your State Legislators enact gun laws that protect your right to own, possess and carry guns in your State. Do you realize that the same laws that grant you the right to posses a gun, also grant your fellow citizens, the same right to own, possess, and carry guns.
Unfortunately, some of these other gunowners will use the gun, authorized by you, to kill your neighbor’s children.
If you demand that your State Legislators pass gun laws that authorize you to possess an AR15, then others will also be authorized to possess an AR15. While you may use your AR15 to shoot varmints on your property, that other individual may use his to massacre school children. I know you truly hope that the school he chooses to massacre children is not the school your children attend, but it could be.
OK, you agree that AR15’s and other military assault rifles should be banned, you only insist on your right to carry a handgun, for self defense of course. After all you are a “law abiding” gun owner. At least AR15’s will not be available, but some teenager or young man will also have the right to carry a hand gun, which he may use it to kill the kids from a rival group, not for self defense. Maybe he will decide to use it to hold up a local business, or assault an elderly neighbor. I hope your elderly neighbor or local businessman will forgive you for insisting on the passage of laws that protected your right to own a handgun, at the expense of their lives.
Yes, I realize that you are just protecting your “individual” rights. However, you are not just an isolated “individual”, you live in a community, you are a member of that community. Are you so selfish that you will insist on your “individual” rights even if they threaten the life and safety of the other members of your community.
Maybe you don’t believe in that “love thy neighbor as thyself” moral injunction, and I guess you have the right to be a selfish narcissist, if you please. If you are, I pity you and your family.
I know you don’t want to hear the truth, but:
YES WE HAVE TO TAKE AWAY
YOUR GUNS
IF WE WANT TO STOP GUN VIOLENCE
