Here are two poems: The first poem is about Kamala Harris. It may seem redundant to write poetry about Kamala Harris after listening to her speak so poetically these last few weeks, both from a teleprompter as well as spontaneously. Still it is my poetic duty to capture and reflect the world around me. So here is my first poem about Kamala Harris...
Kamala Harris as President
What a marvel we have come to
with fifty shades of genes
Jamaican and Indian forged
into one,
then simmered in the pot
that is America.
Science and empathy
brains and determination,
education, curiosity and talent
both mentored and free ranged
brings us to a new fork
in the road of America
where XX marks the spot
to a new and better future.

This second poem is about voting and I wrote it in general support of democracy.
The Choice
In a democracy,
we use our votes,
collectively,
to elect people
to make decisions in line
with our common will.
A majority of voices
must match up
with neighbors,
the people across town,
the state and the nation.
Some forces try to break
the harmony
for their personal desires –
money & power & property –
and sometimes
we make mistakes.
We must be diligent and learn
to watch out
for scoundrels and discern
the lessons of our errors –
to echo Maya Angelou
when we know better, do better
and toss the bastards out
that do harm
and select the best across the spectrum,
as voters,
to lead us to
tomorrow.
