One of the 9 candidates I am working alongside, with the help of Save Our Democracy, Corp is Lisa Stortstrom.
Lisa Stortstrom has always been driven by a deep-seated passion to serve others and make a meaningful difference. From her roots in Jacksonville, Florida, where she studied Public Relations and Political Science, to her impactful work with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Greenpeace, Lisa’s commitment to positive change has been unwavering.
Her journey took a transformative turn as she pursued a career in education, becoming a Montessori teacher and later earning a Master’s Degree in Intensive Special Needs with a focus on Autism Spectrum at Lesley University. Lisa’s expertise extends beyond the classroom, incorporating adaptive yoga practices to support children with special needs in their learning journeys.
Returning to Florida, Lisa was inspired by the beauty of the environment and the recreational lifestyle. However, witnessing the devastation caused by the 2018 red tide crisis ignited her resolve to protect the environment. Her activism with the Environmental Caucus of the Sarasota County Democrats highlighted her dedication to preserving Florida’s natural beauty. As the Activist Director, she worked tirelessly to advocate for a cleaner, healthier environment.
Lisa’s determination to make a broader impact led her to run for the Florida State House in District 74 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing challenges in a predominantly red area, she garnered nearly 45,000 votes, demonstrating her strong commitment to environmental and community issues. Her experiences with red tide poisoning and the adverse effects of overdevelopment fueled her resolve to seek solutions.
Now, Lisa is running for District 85, encompassing St. Lucie and Martin Counties, with a focus on saving the St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon from overdevelopment and pollution. Her campaign is grounded in the belief that government should truly represent its citizens and prioritize their needs over special interests. She advocates for safe environments, accessible public services, and robust education systems, ensuring every student, regardless of their background or abilities, has the opportunity to thrive.
Lisa’s vision extends to ensuring women's rights and freedoms are protected, and she is committed to creating a government that is accountable to every individual and the natural world. With her strong leadership and dedication to democratic values, Lisa aims to bring meaningful change to Florida.
As she campaigns with a clear focus on environmental protection, affordable housing, and educational equity, Lisa Stortstrom is determined to make a lasting impact and drive Florida toward a brighter, more inclusive future.
