I am here a lot less often than I used to be. Since Donald Trump is back in office, I would really like to be here with like-minded Democrats and others who are in the Pro-democracy movement. Right now, we have a huge problem.
1. Five of the world's wealthiest people were at Thing's inauguration with a combined net worth of almost $1.1 Trillion.
2. The owners and operators of the most influential social media platforms were included in those five. X, Facebook, Google.
3. Donald Trump is in most powerful office in the world and consolidating his power with his Schedule F move.
This amount of power concentrated in the enemies of democracy constitutes the most serious internal threat to our democracy and to this nation that this country has ever faced.
Unfortunately , we are very divided and most of the Pro-democracy movement is attacking the Democratic Party and Democratic Party leaders and Vice President Kamala Harris. Even united, this is an incredibly difficult fight to win. If we remain divided like this while we focus most of our attention and energy into attacking the Democratic Party and Democratic Party leaders and Vice President Kamala Harris, we have no chance. The only way we win is if we unite, support each other, boost and build up our flawed and imperfect but good Democratic Party and support our imperfect but good Democratic Party leaders.
The simple fact is that there is no other organization besides the Democratic Party that can fight and take power away from Donald Trump and his Republican Party. In the midterms, we can take back either the House of Representatives or both chambers of Congress. That would greatly reduce the damage Donald Trump and his allies can do. Vice President Kamala Harris won 75 million votes. She lost by 1.5%. No other organization could produce a leader with that amount of support. Nobody and nothing else can limit his power like the Democratic Party can. Furthermore, Speaker Mike Johnson has a very narrow margin in the House which might enable us to stop the worst of the legislation. No more dragging the Democratic Party and Democratic Party leaders unless you want to lose our democracy and enable Trump, the oligarchs, and the social media giants aka the tech bros.
We must focus. We must direct our energies and actions into fighting this threat to our democracy. Engaging in a circular firing squad is not helpful. Attacking the Democratic Party and Democratic Party leaders is counter-productive. We should be attacking the threat to our democracy, Donald Trump, Trumpers, and Donald Trump's Republican Party, the oligarchs and the tech bros.
Attacking the Democratic Party, but not Donald Trump and his Republican Party is counter-productive. It's beyond stupid.
The country moved dramatically to the right after the 2020 presidential election. If you compare how far to the right NON-SWING states moved to the right and how far swing states moved to the right, then you see how effective Vice President Kamala Harris and her campaign were despite being dropped into a near or actually impossible situation. Donald Trump in 2024 won more votes in each of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania than President Biden did in 2020. The Financial Times reported every governing party in every developed democracy that had an election lost voter share. A global trend and pattern requires a global explanation. Did we have any events that dramatically affected the entire world? The pandemic and pandemic driven inflation.
Most voters are high school graduates and they are low information voters who don't understand the electoral college. Thus, they don't understand the significance of the assault on the Capitol, the insurrection. Trump used a violent mob whose anger he ginned up with lies to pressure and scare Mike Pence into counting fake Republican electoral college votes from swing states and not counting the legitimate Democratic electoral college votes which, if successful , would have produced a different winner, a different president-elect. This would have enabled Donald Trump to remain in office despite losing the presidential election. The vast majority of voters don't understand the significance of these events. The question is, "If they understood these events, then when would Donald Trump have returned to the White House?"
These facts tell us that we were looking at an extremely angry anti-incumbent electorate who were mad at the incumbent administration because it rained and this happened all over the world. Was the United States capable of being the one and only exception to this global trend? That's hard to believe.
We must Resist together!
