I’m home, not going anywhere. I have done this all but once in the time since I’ve paid attention to the route. I was in dire need of groceries that time, and there was a way to get out without interfering with the Marathon. Not worth the trouble when I don’t need anything I don’t already have.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

It’s been a week. It will be a while before I know how the government shutdown affects me — there is only the Social Security that involves the feds where I’m concerned, and I’m pretty sure my daughter is paid from state funding. The notice I saw said Social Security will mostly not be affected, and I still think my daughter is paid from state funding.
Sign from a demonstration last Sunday: “PORTLAND ISN’T A WARZONE. It’s a bookstore w/ a city around it.”
I got a call the other day from my financial advisor — it seems that the IRA I inherited from my mother that had to be cashed out within ten years (two years ago) has more in it now than it did when it started. This is not the first time this sort of thing has happened — my PERS account took six years to get below the beginning amount.
I’ve been hearing a helicopter for a couple of days now. I guess I’m more or less directly across the river from the ICE facility.
Oh, yes. I’ve been forgetting to mention this. Delusion season is in full swing here. Every time I’ve gone out my back door in the past couple of weeks, there have been spider webs blocking the way. I don’t think the spiders are big enough to catch and keep me, I really don’t.
