The Virginia House of Delegates — until last night split 51–49 for the Democrats — will now be 64–36 in the wake of the blue tsunami that swept over that purple state.
Huge margin. Huge rebuke of Trump.
Trump, of course, denies the obvious, claiming the pro-Democratic results everywhere are because “Trump wasn’t on the ballot.” But this is the guy who couldn’t even admit he lost when his name was on the ballot in 2020.
The rest of the Republicans — for whom political survival has been all they’ve cared about for years — can surely hear the message in what the electorate did in Virginia last night.
Like the Ghost of Elections Future, a voice in their ears will whisper:
“Unless you change your ways, what happened to them last night in Virginia will happen to you in the midterms.”
Maybe what just happened to the Republican candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates will finally convince more Republican opportunists in Congress — wanting to save their own skin — to stop being Trump’s rubber stamp.
