So, it looks like somewhere between 8-10 Vichy Democrats have decided the best thing they can do to fire up the base, that just gave Democrats one of the most lopsided elections I have ever seen is to cave on the shutdown and give Donald Trump complete and total victory. Brilliant.
WE HAVE PEACE IN OUR TIME!
It truly and honestly is our misfortune that the only person in America worse at making deals than Donald Trump is Chuck Schumer. He is, If I may, the Jar Jar Binks of Senators.
Now some might point out Schumer is not one of the Democrats voting to end this, I have even seen some here defending him as one of the fighters voting no on this. Yeah, I don’t buy it.
Maybe, I’m skeptical, because the gang voting to end it is a convenient mix of retiring Democrats and Senators not up for election anytime soon. Just the kind of group that someone who is trying to end this without repercussions from the base would hand select.
Or maybe he didn’t do it and they all went rogue and did it on their own and he was powerless to stop it. I don’t care either way.
The way I see it, either Schumer is too weak to stand up to Donald Trump. Or Schumer is too weak to keep his caucus together, so that they can stand up to Donald Trump. Either way in my opinion he is too weak and needs to go.
And it looks like a few of our elective reps have come to the same conclusion I have. Here is congressman Ro Khanna on the subject:
I couldn’t agree more! So I’m writing asking everyone that has a senator who voted against this to call that senator and tell them voting no is not enough. We need a vote to replace Senator Schumer as the minority leader.
We desperately need a war time leader. Neville Chamberlain, was not the man that saved Britain from the Nazis. That was Churchill. And I sure as shit would appreciate Democrats finding strong leadership because this really is our darkest hour.
So I’m asking, no check that, I’m begging everyone to call their Senator and demand new leadership in the Senate. It only take 23. Heck at this point I might take the money I was going to donate to Democrats and offer to spread it out to anyone who will call and demand new leadership.
Sadly, I’m no Elon Musk so it would be a small amount. But I digress.
As for the rest of the group. I will support them if it is between them and a Republican. Although I have to say I’ve probably never been more tempted to not do so than I am now. The stakes are too high for that,
But if any of them happens to face a primary, I will praise Jesus, Sing my heart out, donate, phone bank, write letters and do any action I am capable of to support that primary opponent. I’m not exactly a Koch brother, So I acknowledge what I can do is limited, but by god I swear i would do what I can.
Lastly, regardless of whatever happens, I will take my cues, from AOC, Bernie Sanders, Gavin Newsom, Governor Prtizker, Mayor Mamdani and anyone with fight in them. I view them as the real Democratic leadership. The rest, to me, are meaningless figureheads.
