Just to keep it brief, here’s what we know so far about some key elections that took place today.
Election Previous Election Tonight Shift
Florida Senate District 11 (2024) R + 40 R +18 D + 22
Florida House District 90 (2024) D + 12 D +28 D +16
Georgia House District 121 (2024) R + 22 D + 2 D +24
Miami, Florida Mayor (2021) R landslide D + 19 D > +60
In Georgia, Gisler is a great candidate. He ran a year ago for this same seat, and lost. This is a gerrymandered district that voted 61-39 a year ago for the Republican over Gisler. I would say that this is an incredible outcome in a 2-1 republican district. The district is composed of part of Clarke County (a very blue county) and part of Oconee County (a very red county). But about 2/3 of the district’s population live in Oconee County. In Clarke County, in 2024, the vote was D + 30, but in 2025, it was D + 65. In Oconee County, in 2025, the vote was R + 48, while in 2025, it was R + 29. To summarize, in the democratic stronghold of Clarke, the shift from one year ago is D + 35 , and in the Republican part of the district, the shift from last year to this is D + 19.
Miami was also a terrific result. This is the first Democrat to win the mayoral race in almost 30 years. In 2021, there was almost no competition — the Republican had got over 78% of the vote
Another race held today was for Iowa’s 7th House district. Sadly, the Republican has won by 40 points. This one is a bit difficult to compare with the 2024 election because no Democrat ran in 2024; however, an Independent ran, and was defeated by the Republican 83-16. The last time a democrat was in the race was in 2020, when the Republican won by 24 points.
Overall, a great night!
