This comes from TPM. I haven’t seen much about this here, and it warrants attention, and I recommend reading the article. Some background: Trump ordered the “Justice” Department to suspend the charges against NYC mayor Eric Adams in one of the most dead-red corruption cases since… Well, okay, we don’t have to go that far back. Since Menendez. Suffice to say, the case against Adams was epic. They literally have text messages from him saying, essentially, “Hey, let’s be sure to keep this secret so we don’t get arrested.”
Well, Trump ordered the DOJ to suspend the charges so that, as they put it, they can give Adams a better ability to focus on implementing Trump’s agenda. In other words, “We’re going to put these charges on hold for a while. Do what we say and we’ll drop them completely.” It was one of the most brazenly corrupt abuses of power since…
Okay, we’re going in circles here.
Anyway, small problem. Apparently, they couldn’t find anyone at the SDNY to actually file the motion. And the Republican attorney there, who was appointed by Trump, just resigned rather than do it.
It’s a big deal.
